Vanessa Selbst is one of the best women poker players that you may ever run across. If you were to play with you would notice her aggressive game play. To her poker is a ‘business’ deal that must be perfected and taken all the way. She has proven over and over again that she has what it takes.
Vanessa is from Brooklyn New York - which gives us an insight as to where she learned her aggressive way of playing. She is only 23 years old and has just started to play semi-professional during the last year. Throughout her small but productive poker career she has won a total of $289,941. Unfortunately we may not see much of her after this year because she was accepted to Yale Law School.
When asked about the discrimination theory that many women are facing at the ladies poker events she said, "I see both side of this controversy; yes, they are in a way discriminatory but I believe in affirmative action, and these events are helping poker in a more positive way than negative. There are many ladies that do not feel comfortable playing in mixed events, so ladies events bring more players to the game."
We can expect to see Vanessa Friday, April 25th at the final table of the WPT Bellagio Five Star Ladies event - which will be televised. "I'm really very excited. I had a chance to be on a televised final table last year and it was cancelled, so that was a huge disappointment. I'm going into this final with a pretty big chip lead so it should be a lot of fun! I've been playing some really good solid poker for the last three months, so my confidence is high," said Vanessa with excitement.
Going in to the second day of the event Vanessa already has a stack of $100,000 in chips waiting for - which gives her a lead over many of the people. We would not be surprised if she were to work her way up to the final table and maybe even taking home the win.
