Tips for the Wonderful Ladies of Poker

If you watch any major poker event in person or on television, it won't take you long to notice that women are playing a major role in the world of poker.  From tables at your local casino to the World Series of Poker, women from all kinds of backgrounds and lifestyles are enjoying the game of poker.  From absolute beginners to some of the best players in the game, you can can find women players at every skill level that the game of poker has to offer.

Even though there are a countless number of women involved in the game of poker, this does not mean that women always receive the treatment that they should while they are at a table.  Although it seems obvious to most people that all players should be treated with the same level of respect, regardless of whether they are a man or woman, for some reason, there are still players out there who refuse to treat their female opponents with the same basic respect that they give to their male competitors.

If you are a female poker player, you have undoubtedly been through your fair share of uncomfortable moments at the poker table as a result of the treatment you have received simply for being a woman.  Although it is unfortunate that there is no way to end this type of behavior once and for all, there are some tips that I would like to provide that should help you minimize the impact of this type of unfair treatment:

Treat Others Like You Expect to Be Treated: Since you want to avoid having other players discriminate against you just because of your gender, from the moment you sit down at the table, you should treat all of your fellow players with the same level of respect that you receive.  You would be amazed at how effective bringing a positive attitude from the very beginning of a poker game can be at deterring others from trying to tear you down simply because you are a woman.

Ignore the Drama: If there is a player that is trying to get under your skin by insulting your gender, simply ignore their attempts at insulting you.  Just like the bully in elementary school, when you don't give someone any attention, they will almost always give up.

Let Your Skills Speak for You: At the end of the day, if you work hard to become a good poker player, you will eventually receive the respect you deserve.  Instead of worrying about what someone is saying about you, just focus on being a winning player!
