The 2008 WSOP Europe Schedule Announced

The schedule for the 2008 WSOP Europe has officially been announced by Harrah's Entertainment. According to their announcement, the European World Series of Poker will take place between September 19, 2008 and October 2, 2008. The event will be held in the city of London, England. The specific locations for the event include Empire, Fifty, The Sportsman and most likely, Golden Nugget and Rendezvous.

In this year's WSOP Europe, in addition to four bracelet events, there will be five more preliminaries that are non-bracelet events. The beginning dates for the four European WSOP bracelet events are:

  • September 19th: No Limit Hold'em Day
  • September 22nd: H.O.R.S.E
  • September 24th: Pot Limit Omaha
  • September 27th: World Championship No Limit Hold'em

The first three events will all take place over the course of three days, while the events of the final World Championship will unfold over five full days. With each event, the buy-in fee increases. For the first event, the buy-in fee is £1,500, and increases to £2,500, £5,000 and £10,000 for the remaining three events.

In addition to pre-registering at any Harrah's or London Clubs International property, you can compete online for a chance to qualify. The qualifying tournaments will be held on Betfair.com, which is an official sponsor of the 2008 WSOPE.

After announcing the tournament schedule, Harrah's also announced a new broadcasting deal with ESPN. During this year's WSOPE, ESPN will cover eight full hours of the event. This European WSOP coverage will be broadcast throughout the world. Harrah's will also be distributing coverage of the WSOP Europe into markets that are not covered by ESPN.

In 2007, Annette Obrestad won the main event of the inagural World Series of Poker Europe and took home a prize of £1 million.
