Poker Hall of Fame Nominees for 2010 Released
The Poker Hall of Fame is in the habit of inducting people into its hallowed halls every year and this year the 10 finalists for that honour have been made public just recently. The list is an impressive one with many names that people will recognize right off the bat.
Heading up the list are four people that won the World Series of Poker Main Event. The most recent of these winners is Chris Ferguson (nicknamed “Jesus” for his style of hair) who took down the Main Event championship in 2000 and is the most recent genuine tournament poker professional to win the accolade.
Other main event champions include the “Prince of Poker” Scotty Nguyen who won the championship in 1998 and noted poker author Tom McEvoy who acquired his bracelet in 1983. Dan Harrington, a man that won the event in 1995 and went to successive final tables in 2003 and 2004 in the Main Event headlines the final Main Event winner to be on the list of nominees this year.
Another point that the Poker Hall of Fame is proud of is that two of the nominees this year are women. Jennifer Harman and Linda Johnson, two women that have absolutely done more than their part to shape the past, present and future of the game, will also be on the final balloting from the list of ten.
The final four potential inductees are all people that are seen on television all the time. Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Erik Seidel and Barry Greenstein will be the final people on the ballot, an impressive group of four that boast 23 WSOP bracelets out of the Main Event between the four of them and tens of millions of dollars in side game poker winnings over the same period of time.
In 2009 Mike Sexton earned the honour of being inducted into the Hall of Fame, a conclusion that many thought to be obvious when his name appeared on the list of nominees. This year, the induction ceremony will take place just before the final table of this year’s Main Event is resolved in November.
