Online Poker Changing Dramatically
The news in the online world goes so fast that one has to expect a certain amount of difficulty in being able to stay on top of things, but the recent pace at which things have been happening in the online poker world is something akin to ridiculous.
It started with the decision of the Microgaming network to ban US players on its network. When Microgaming exited the US market, two of the sites formerly affiliated with Microgaming decided to jump ship and stay loyal to their American customers. Poker Host and Doyle’s Room, both of whom had huge followings in the United States, ended up joining the Cake Poker Network instead, causing a huge surge in the Cake numbers and a significant decrease in what Microgaming brought to the table.
April 14th was a sad day in online poker because of the closing of Poker Room, one of the best known and oldest online poker sites around. Bugsy’s Club was also responsible for its own shutdown, with rumors circulating the internet like wild fire as to why they went down that road.
And now, just because things weren’t confusing enough for the average online poker player, the Entraction Network has signed a letter of intent that will see its online poker operations of 24 Hour Poker and Martin’s Poker sold to iGame, another large online poker company.
The CEO of Entraction, Peter Astrom, decreed that the move was done in order to allow Entraction the chance “…to focus one hundred percent on [its] supplier operation.” Apparently, Mr. Astrom felt that other online poker networks that tried to walk the line between supplier and operator were not financially viable to the max in either role and he felt that such a move was not the right thing for Entraction at the current moment in time. Regardless of the reason however, Astrom has set a new first by signing the letter of intent. If the sale does actually go through, Entraction will be the first network in online poker history to actually sell an online poker website in its entirety to another online operation.
