Nominations Released for Women in Poker Hall of Fame
In many ways, the Women in Poker Hall of Fame is looked at with more interest than the Poker Hall of Fame. This is because the promotion of women in poker is looked at very seriously by most and for that reason people that are contributing towards that role will get honored by many people for what they were able to do.
This does not necessarily mean that getting into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame is easy either because there are actually stringent guidelines for nomination.
The guidelines are three-fold and first off look for at least 15 years of involvement in the industry either as a player or a supporter. At the same time, significant contributions to the world of poker over that time period are looked for. Thirdly, the person in question has to have advocated in favor of women’s poker throughout that period of time. Unless someone satisfies all three of these criteria, there is no way for them to make it into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame.
For 2010, seven women were nominated for consideration to admission in the Hall, but only two will make it in when all is said and done. Big names like Annie Duke, Jennifer Harman and Kathy Liebert are on this list, people that just about everyone that follows professional poker is familiar with.
However, the list includes other names as well that might be less familiar like Joanne Liu, Phyllis Caro, Nani Dollison and Betty Carey. These names are well known inside the poker community however as these women have done indescribable amounts to advance the front of women’s poker over the course of their lives. They may have quietly done it behind the scenes or without too much fanfare, but they certainly deserve all of the credit that they have received with their nominations.
It is unfortunate that only two will end up making it into the hall, but it is still good that some of the most admirable women in poker have been recognized with nominations towards the Women in Poker Hall of Fame.
