It seems as though the season of good deeds has come to the online poker world. One of the interesting aspects about the industry is that all of the online poker sites tend to get more generous with their promotions around the time of the WSOP. They understand where their initial popularity came from and for that reason promotions are flying all over the place right now. A particularly large promotion has just been launched from the Party Poker headquarters and it is the main promotion that will take people through to the start of the World Series of Poker.

The idea behind the promotion is simple. Whenever a player plays a game at one of the Party Poker cash game tables, they end up generating rake. When this happens, they will start to get rake points. The number of rake points that a player gets is directly equivalent to a certain multiplier times the number of raked hands a player plays in an hour. The result of that multiplication is then again multiplied by the ratio between the amount of rake generated in dollars to the number of hands played that hour. Depending on all of those figures, an amount for the rake points is calculated which is then stored separate to the normal Party Points that a person can also earn.

Why is this important? Well, as the title of the news article implies, it is important because there is a million dollars riding on the outcome of the rake race that will happen over the next little while. The prize pool is $1,000,000 and out of that prize pool, the first place finisher will get $20,000 in cash as well as a prize package with a Main Event entry valued at another $20,000. Since only the first prize is actually drawn from the cash prize pool, that leaves over $950,000 left to be divided up amongst the other players involved. With that kind of cash on the table, it is no wonder that players are flocking over to Party Poker for their opportunity to get involved.
