Million Dollar Challenge Yields 100K Winner

It might seem more like a plotline from a Hollywood movie than real life, but that didn’t stop the religious minister from cleaning the clock of two Poker Stars professionals and claiming a payday of $100,000 in the process.

Father Andrew Trapp, a minister from South Carolina, was a contestant on the Poker Stars Million Dollar Challenge. The show was created in response to the Full Tilt Poker show Face the Ace and so far the Million Dollar Challenge has had a wild ride on the Fox network that decided to air it.

The Father’s day started off with a match against John Salley, a name that some might remember from the NBA. During this first match, Daniel Negreanu was able to sit next to Father Trapp and give him advice without seeing the hole cards. At the same time, Trapp was allowed to take one timeout with Negreanu in a sound-proof booth in order to assess the situation and get advice regarding a particularly difficult hand. It turned out that Trapp was able to use that hand to double-up and therefore the timeout was used quite well. Trapp eventually went on to win that round and elected to stay in the match and move onto round 2.

Round 2 saw Trapp facing off against Vanessa Rousso, a woman known all around the world for her excellent heads-up play as well as her second place finish at the National Heads-Up Poker Championship. This time, Negreanu was able to give him advice from the soundproof booth where he could see Trapp’s hole cards. With the help of the Canadian-born poker champion, Trapp was able to defeat Rousso and earn a prize of $25,000. He elected to put that prize on the line and move onto round 3 where he would go head-to-head with Negreanu himself.

Trapp was able to win that round as well and by the end of the episode was able to walk away with $100,000 and the knowledge that he went heads-up with two of the best poker players in the world and bested them both to get there. If future episodes of the Million Dollar Challenge are as exciting as this one was, this show is going to have a long and illustrious future.
