The World Series of Poker is an event that poker fans and poker players (professional or not) look forward to every year. It is the one event that can promise a lot of action, a lot of strategy, and a lot of new faces to see competing as well as a few old one. Every year the World Series of Poker is held in Las Vegas. Las Vegas is the best city to hold this event because of its charm and the thrill and excitement that one receives when they first enter the city. After all Vegas is where many of the world’s best casinos are and where many rich people have won and lost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The event held in 2007 was one to remember and as we reflect back on it we wonder what things might repeat themselves for the year 2008. The World Series of Poker is made up of around 50 different events. Yet, when it comes down to it the only thing that we really pay attention to or look forward to is the Main Event.
During 2007 the Main Event was the $10,000 No Limit Texas Hold’em event. For those of you who didn’t pay attention or who need to be refreshed Jerry Yang was the winner. Yang won close to $8 million dollars – but will he be able to do it again? It is true that if Jerry Yang plays as well as he did in 2007 he has every shot. However, it is not so easy to determine who will take home the prize anymore. After all millions of people are playing poker all over the world on hundreds of different sites. Every day these people are honing in their skills for the time when they will get the chance to compete in one of the biggest events in poker.
Last year at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas dozens of records were being broken and new ones were being placed in their wake. Steve Billrakis became known as the youngest player to win the gold bracelet during the World Series of Poker last year and Phill Hellmuth won yet another WSOP poker bracelet for himself giving him a total of 11. We expect more records to be broken for 2008. Already the record that Billrakis won was taken away only three months later after an eighteen year old won a bracelet during the World Series of Poker Europe Tournament.
