HeadsUp Entertainment to Create Poker Channel
The rumour mill has turned out to be correct this time around because HeadsUp Entertainment has finally confirmed that they will be creating a new poker channel at some point during the final quarter of the 2009 year.
The announcement was made recently by Kelly Kellner, the President of HeadsUp Entertainment HeadsUp Entertainment is a company that is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange, but has not forgotten its roots as a company that was founded and is currently based in Canada Kellner has certainly not forgotten this point and that is why the President commented earlier that the new channel would feature the Canadian content within the world of poker.
It all starts with the name and continues from there The name is CanadianPokerPlayer.tv and it is being hosted by the same company responsible for the Canadian Poker Tour and the Canadian Poker Player Magazine.
When the site is up and running, it will be the first channel of its kind dedicated to the showing of poker and poker-related content There are other channels that show quite a bit of poker as part of their overall programming, but there is no channel within North America that is completely dedicated to poker The United Kingdom has the Poker Channel and that channel has shown that this type of dedication can lead to excellent programming and a solvent business model.
The programming in the channel would start off with Canadian poker that has already been produced and televised This includes past iterations of the Canadian Open Poker Championships as well as other events that have already been filmed and produced in Canada From that point on, CanadianPokerPlayer.tv will attempt to put on shows and movies that showcase the poker player’s experience within Canadian borders.
According to Kellner, HeadsUp Entertainment is already in contact with some Canadian poker professionals in order to get them to agree to do original programming with CanadianPokerPlayer.tv The President could not give the press more information than that because of the ongoing nature of these negotiations, but it does seem as though these programs could headline the 2010 schedule on CanadianPokerPlayer.tv.
