Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars Still Fighting the US Government
If the Attorney’s Office of the United States was hoping to scare the online poker industry into cooperation just like they did with the seizure of funds from NETeller a few years ago, it appears as though their move has failed miserably. Not only have they failed to make a dent in the confidence that the industry has in these two giants of online poker, but they have galvanized an entire community of online poker players behind the cause of making online poker completely and unambiguously legal within the United States once again.
Their seizure of $30 million in funds from Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars did cause quite a stir at the time and many people did have their confidence shaken when checks that they went to deposit ended up bouncing at the bank. However, that confidence was quickly restored when the poker sites went out of their way to refund the money, giving many players bonus amounts in the process as a way of making up for the hassle that they faced.
At the current moment in time, it appears as though both Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars are operating under a policy of business as usual. Players that are depositing checks are now finding that the payouts are indeed coming at regularly scheduled intervals and of course the bank wire option was one that many players exercised as an alternative to getting paper checks written and sent to their door. So all in all, even the loss of that mammoth amount of money has not stopped either site from keeping the commitments of money that they have made to their customers.
On the legal side of things, both of these poker websites now have both the Poker Players Alliance and Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association (PPA and iMEGA respectively) behind them. It appears as though the chips are falling in line for a full out legal war for the future of online gambling in the country and that could very well mean that this issue will not be decided one way or the other anytime soon.
