Day 6 at the World Series of Poker Main Event

There was nothing particularly exciting about the World Series of Poker Main Event on day 6. Of course, this could very well have been because of the crazy rounds that had happened in the two preceding days. Still, there is not much to report. The field has shrunk to 101 players and all over the place people are starting to wonder if they could still be around by the time the World Series of Poker gets to the final table. That field of 101 continued to shrink throughout the day, going to 81 as of the time of writing.

When the players broke for dinner on the sixth day of play, the top chip stack in the room belonged to Darvin Moon. He was at 5.7 million, although at the same time there were several players that had more than half his stack in chips. As of 11:30 on day 6 he was in the lead with an even larger stack of 7.5 million, although 2nd place Ludovic Lacay was still in the mix with a chip stack of 6.62 million.

The day was not kind to some of the professionals as a lot of big names were knocked out. David Benyamine will not be winning the title this year, nor will Bertrand Grospellier or Eric Cloutier.

There are some professionals that are still very much in the running, including two that have to be the favorites to win the tournament from this point in. Antonio Esfandiari was third in chips behind Moon and Lacay at 11:30 on day 6 with a chip stack of 5.6 million and Phil Ivey was fourth with a very impressive 5 million chip stack. Both of these players are notoriously dangerous when they have chips to work with, so Norman Chad will likely be backing them both for runs right through to the final table.

The action is getting fast and furious and now that we have two professionals in the top five it looks as though there is something for everyone to look forward to right now. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s update as it will likely be very interesting indeed.
