CERUS Network revamps Tournament Promotion for 2011
The end of the year is usually a time for reflection on the part of many people and this year that reflection is something that has come to online poker sites as well. The CEREUS Network has decided that they can be more generous to their players this year and the most obvious iteration of that will be the changes made to the Tournament Leaderboard or TLB, one of their flagship promotions.
The TLB is a brainchild of the CEREUS Network which is composed of two of the more experienced online poker sites around in UB.com and Absolute Poker. These two online poker giants have run the TLB for a long time now and have decided to make its two constituent parts (the MTT-TLB for multi-table tournaments and the SNG-TLB for sit and go tournaments) more generous.
This starts with the MTT-TLB which at the end of the year will hand out over $100,000 to the top players at the end of the calendar year. That means that the player at the top of the list will take home $10,000 and a seat in the next WSOP Main Event following the promotional end date. The second place finisher will get a seat as well, but will take home $5000 in cash instead of the ten grand the winner gets. The remaining 98 players rounding out the top of the leaderboard will all get prizes as well with individual performances during a particular month also counting for something in the $15,000 monthly TLBs.
SNG-TLB results and prize have not been revamped to the same degree, but they definitely do deserve a lot of consideration because of their weekly basis. Players in $6.50 or lower tournaments play in the Diamond group, $6.51 to $25 play in the Heart group and over $25 play in the Spade group. At the end of each week, these three groups will have prize pools of $1000, $3000 and $5000 respectively awarded for the top finishers in the group.
Although the formula for calculating a finish is somewhat complicated, it is essentially a ratio of the prize pool to the finishing position with some square roots and exponents thrown in for good measure. It is this formula that is used in determining how the TLB prizes are handed out.
