Bodog.com Back in Namesake Hands

In one of the more bizarre stories going on at the current moment in time in the field of online gambling, it appears as though Bodog has managed to regain the domain name that had been stripped from it a short time ago. The company, founded by Calvin Ayre, has long been a hub of online gambling activity, but has also ended up losing the bodog.com domain name to a lawsuit put in place by a company claiming infringement on some of their registered patents.

The company is known as 1st Technology and it is based in Las Vegas while being headed by Dr. Scott Lewis. The lawsuit was brought in 2007 and during that period of time, the Bodog people had lost control of the bodog.com domain name, something that had severely impacted their business. As many players were continually frustrated by failed attempts to log into their accounts through bodog.com, Bodog eventually launched bodoglife.com, another website that took over the role of bodog.com for all intents and purposes. With a few changes in marketing and an e-mail sent out to current customers, Bodog was able to escape relatively unscathed considering how important a domain name is to an online company.

While the details of the issue and the settlement are sketchy at best, it appears as though the issue between 1st Technology and Bodog has definitely been resolved because the bodog.com domain name is now back in the hands of the people that represents its namesake. Bodog now owns and operates both bodog.com and bodoglife.com and at the current moment in time it is unclear as to whether those sites will be merged or will continue to operate independently for some time to come.

And in another bizarre twist, it appears as though Bodog is not out of the woods yet regarding their domain name. When the bodog.com domain name was in the hands of 1st Technology, the Kentucky state lawsuit to seize control of 141 domain names from internet gambling went through and bodoglife.com was mentioned in the lawsuit. We will have to wait and see if bodog.com will get substituted or added to the list now that the world knows that Bodog is once again in control of that particular domain name.
