APPT 2009 Coming to a Close
The Asia Pacific Poker Tour might be one of the newcomers to the world of competitive live tournament poker tours, but it has nevertheless become one of the flagship tours on the international circuit. Poker Stars initially backed the creation of the APPT and now thanks to their own star-studded cast of endorsers and the momentum of consecutive successful years, APPT 2009 is coming to a close with just about everyone that knows anything about poker truly ecstatic at how things have gone this year.
The final event in the APPT for 2009 will be the Grand Final and it will take place in Sydney, Australia. It will start on December 1st and will end on December 6th with the final table being played. Buying into the tournament costs AUD 6300.00 and the final prize is likely going to be worth a million Australian dollars or more. As if people needed any more reasons to go to the tournament, you will also be able to find great Poker Stars Pros like Peter Eastgate and Joe Hachem at that tournament.
Last year, the APPT Grand Final actually came to a showdown between two Australian players. This fact was not really that surprising considering that 39 players out of the final 48 were of Australian origin. However, the home crowd loved it and there are likely many out there hoping that this year will be a repeat of the events of one year ago.
Even though this tournament is called the Grand Final, there is still one more tournament after it. It is the APPT Tournament of Champions and it will take place between the winners of all of the events in the tour. There will also be some other big-name players invited to the tournament which is a tournament purely for charity and nothing else. Each player picks a charity and then sits down to see how much money they can win for it. It was a blast last year with Vanessa Rousso winning the tournament and it was great two years ago as well when hometown favorite Joe Hachem ended up taking down the grand prize.
