How to Win at Poker – Online Tournament Strategy

Category: | Date: December 30th, 2009 | 0 comments »

Although the rules are the same, playing Poker online requires vastly different strategies and tactics to win. Playing a live game of poker requires the ability to read other people’s expressions and choices; watch their eyes and reactions to learn when they have a good hand and when they are bluffing. When you play online you do not have any of these advantages, so you have to use a different strategy to win. Getting over the mentality you develop playing with people will be difficult but necessary to succeed at online poker.

It is easy to say that the computer cheats because it is the dealer and player. It is easy to think that it knows what your hand is and cheats to make sure you don’t profit off of the game. Neither of these, however, is true. Online poker is entirely controlled by a computer algorithm. As a computer, there will be some sort of a pattern built into each of the hands dealt. The use of an algorithm will mean that you will not be able to always tell what will happen next, but the careful observer will be able to determine a pattern that will increase the chances of knowing what the other players have and how they will react on a turn. Remember, when your opponents are raising the stakes, this is probably a pattern built into the program. The computer is not trying to outsmart or fool you; it is a cold calculated move that with the right amount of scrutiny might be something you can predict. All of the players’ moves are computer based. Being able to monitor the types of moves the other players make instead of trying to out think them is how a good online player is able to turn online poker into a profitable game.
