Tips for Avoiding Tilt

There is almost no way for you to be able to avoid tilt completely because often at the poker table our emotions can get the better of us. When you’re playing poker you need to do your job to avoid going on tilt the best you can. There are several tips that we’re going to share with you which will help you to avoid going on tilt.

The best way to avoid losing your chips when you’re on tilt is by taking a break for a little bit. Whether you take the rest of the day off or you just sit out for an hour, it’s really important for you to sit out for a little bit so you can calm your emotions down.

Sometimes you will be able to help going on tilt by sitting at the table and thinking about all of the times you’ve been lucky. Having a bad beat against you isn’t a one way street and I’m sure you’ve been able to suck out of pots in the past. Everyone is going to lose to a bad beat sooner or later so you need to avoid letting it get the better of you.

Another tip you can follow to avoid tilt is to sit down after you lose a bad beat and start playing really tight poker until you hit a big hand. You will be very tempted to chase down hands when you’ve just lost a bad beat, but you’ll want to avoid doing this until you’ve hit a hand where you shouldn’t lose. Often by winning a nice sized pot after losing a big pot you will be able to calm yourself down and get re-focused.

As I mentioned earlier it’s nearly impossible to avoid going on tilt because of the emotions surrounding the game of poker, but you can limit how it affects you. It feels bad losing a big hand on a bad beat, but trust me when I say it feels a lot worse when you throw away the rest of your chips afterwards because you’re angry at the time. Make sure you take a break so you can re-concentrate your mind on playing your poker game and not playing with emotions.
