Super Turbo Sit and Go Strategy
Many poker rooms are now offering super turbo sit and go tournaments. These tournaments have a much different structure than the normal sit and go tournaments and for this reason they require a slightly different strategy to give you the best chance to profit. In super turbo sit and go’s players start with very few chips and the blinds increase very quickly. For example in the Full Tilt Poker super turbo sit and go tournaments players all start with 300 chips and the blinds start out at 30 and increase every 3 minutes. Many players think these sit and go’s are completely luck and require absolutely no skill. The truth is that super turbo sit and go’s are very beatable if you understand the structure and use it to your advantage.
In this article we will explain how to use the super turbo structure to your advantage by playing tight early, increasing your all-in range as players are eliminated, using your position to steal blinds and of course how to avoid the bubble.
In these sit and go tournaments all the players start with only about ten times the big blind in chips. This means that you should usually either be pushing all-in or folding. Obviously, there are exceptions such as limping from the small blind or of course checking the big blind. Early in the tournament there are a lot of players which means even though the blinds are large you can wait for a premium hand to move in because you are able to see a lot of hands for every blind that you put into the pot. In the very early stages you should play fairly tight and only make a move with a very big ace or a big pocket pair.

As more players are eliminated from the tournament the blinds will be increasing and they will also be more frequent because there will be less players seated. These changes should cause you to increase the range of hands you will push all-in with. This is important to do because you will need to steal blinds to maintain your stack and because there are less players remaining there is a greater chance your hand is good.
In super turbo sit and go’s your position pre-flop is extremely important. For example if you are on the button and the action has been folded around to you, you should push with a much larger range of hands than you would push from under the gun. This is because there are now only two players left that can call you instead of the entire table. This increases the chance that your hand is the best and it also increases your chances of stealing the blinds.
By far, the worst place to finish in a super turbo sit and go is fourth place. To avoid this you have to adjust your game near the bubble to ensure you squeak into the money. First of all, you don’t want to let yourself blind out. If you have the least amount of chips out of the remaining players you should be pushing often to try to double up or steal blinds. If you have the second largest stack it can be a good strategy to play a little bit tighter to avoid confrontations with the big stack, but if you have the chance to send a short stack home you should jump at the opportunity.
Once it gets down to three-handed you should be pushing with any decent hand. At this point the blinds are so big and there are so few players that a hyper-aggressive style is most profitable. Super turbo sit and go tournaments are fast paced and full of action, but this does not mean there is no skill involved in the game. The profit you will make comes from those players who are on tilt and think the super turbo sit and go’s are all luck. Once these players are eliminated it comes down to being aggressive and avoiding the bubble.
