Eventually every single poker player wants to move up limits and have the chance to play in bigger pots and potentially win more money. Often the thought of making more money by moving up limits is enough for most players to make the move, but is it always the right move? You need to think about whether or not you’re actually ready or not for moving up limits because if you’re not ready then you’re going to be hard pressed to make any money. Some of the factors you need to consider when you’re thinking about moving up limits as a poker player are as followed.

The competition is going to obviously become more difficult and possibly the most difficult jump is from the $2/$4 game to the $5/$10 game. The competition becomes really strong at this point and you need to make sure you are a good enough player to hand with the big boys on these tables.

You need to track your results as a poker player and the earlier you start tracking your stats the better off you’ll be. You will be able to look back at the stats you keep and they will help you determine whether or not you’re making money. They will also give you an idea of how much money you make per 1000 hands which is important.

One of the last things you need to consider is whether or not you have a big enough bankroll in order to play the limits you want to play. If you aren’t going to have enough of a bankroll to allow for downslides then you’re going to go broke sooner or later. Wait until you have enough money before making the move and your problem will be solved.

Some players find that they do better on lower limit tables then the higher limit tables and this could be for several reasons. The competition is weaker, there is less of a risk and often players feel more confident on the lower limit tables which helps them excel at their game. If you’re not comfortable on the high limit tables then you’re not going to post the results you desire.
