45 Man Sit and Go Tournament Strategy

One of the common sized sit and go tournaments that are practically offered by every online poker room is the 45 man sit and go tournament. Ideally you will want to find a busy online poker room so that they you can play in these types of tournaments anytime you want. The problem with playing in small poker rooms is that it often takes awhile for these sit and go tournaments to fill up with players.

In these tournaments the top 7 players will make money so you need to have a really good tournament in order to make money. To begin the tournament the 45 players will be split up on 5 tables with 9 players on each table. In the early stages of the tournament you will want to make sure that you try and play any of your good drawing hands. When you have a premium hand you will want to raise the action up so you can’t get outdrawn to a junk hand. When you have marginal hands such as low suited connectors or something you should try to limp into the pot so you can see whether or not you can hit a straight or a flush on the flop.

As the tournament progresses and the blinds begin going up your strategy will be dependant on your stack size. If you’re one of the chip leaders then I would advise you to put constant pressure on your opponents. You should be able to pick up some easy pots from the medium sized stacks. You need to be careful about the small stacks on your table though, because they are more likely to go all-in then medium stacks.

If you manage to make it to the final table then your biggest goal should be to play tight poker until you get down to the final 7. Since only the top 7 players make money in this type of tournament you will not want to be eliminated in 8th or 9th place. If you’re one of the short stacks to start the final table then I would recommend picking your spots and trying to steal the blinds off medium sized stacks. The bigger stacks will be more likely to call you then a medium sized stack because the medium sized stack has a lot more on the line. Once you get down to the final 7 you can begin playing however you feel like playing since you’ve now made the money. I typically try and wait out the next few eliminations so I can move up the pay scale before making any silly moves though.
