Most of the other poker rooms are unable to fill up 180 man sit and go tournaments consistently so you’re best off playing with Poker Stars where you know you’ll be able to find a game. Typically the most popular 180 man tournament is the $10+$1 and you can usually find one of these beginning every 15-20 minutes.

When you’re playing in this type of tournament you will begin on one of the 20 tables. Each table has a total of 9 players on it to begin the tournament and as players are knocked out you’ll be moved around to fill up empty tables. When you’re playing the early stages of such a large tournament you don’t really want to get too involved in the action until you have a monster hand. A lot of the players will go all-in and bet a lot in the early stages, but if you want to make it deep you should stay out of it until you get a hand you’re willing to go all-in with.

The goal in the early stages of these types of tournaments is to double up twice or maybe even possibly three times. You don’t need to play a lot of hands and technically you really only need to play a couple big hands to be in good position. As the tournament progresses you will need to begin loosening up your game and stealing blinds when you can. It’s vital that you do steal some blinds in a tournament like this though, because as the blinds go up you won’t be able to afford to wait patiently for a monster hand like you did in the early stages of the event.

You will want to continue playing a fairly tight game until you get into the money, but keep in mind you do need to average at least one pot every time around the table so that you aren’t losing chips. As long as you play a sound poker game like mentioned above then you’re leaving yourself the chance to make some money. There is some luck involved in a tournament of this size because you can often get your chips in with the best hand and lose to a bad beat, but this isn’t your fault.

As long as you have the best hand when the chips are pushed into the middle of the pot then you can’t ask for anything better, and you’ll need to rely on the cards to fall in place for you. Often this little bit of luck factor will reflect whether or not a good poker player cashes in a large tournament like this.
